Through The Wire

Congratulations to the 18 young Firefliers from Linlithgow who took us on a turbulent, sometimes funny, but hugely unsettling visiting hour at a young offender’s institution last weekend.
Directed by Laura Stephen and Kirsty Byers, Through The Wire explored themes of longing, regret and curtailment. Clear from the start that this was not a world of happy endings, a mix of bold, brash and sensitive performances, interlinked with beautifully shot film, led the audience towards a final and shocking conclusion.
60 minutes of controlled and escalating emotional turmoil was a big ask, especially as this cast ranged in age from 13 to 17 years. Yet they performed with poise, integrity and conviction. This was one particular visiting hour that won’t be forgotten in a hurry.
