Congratulations to our all-girl cast for last weekend’s exhilarating and accomplished production of King Lear for Firefly’s Spring Performance Challenge 2016. Developed, rehearsed and performed in just 6 days, this adaptation of Shakespeare’s despotic Lear and his power-hungry daughters was cool, sassy and effortlessly stylish.
With an audience seated cabaret-style, the young cast (S1 and S2s) worked the space with energy and dynamism, breaking out into the audience as characters and plot unraveled.
Directed by Amy Wilson and Kirsty Byers, and brilliantly lit by Laura Hawkins, this highly stylized and slightly unpredictable Lear reminded us all why we love youth theatre. The levels of tension, excitement and expectation in the studio were palpable. Well done to everyone involved!
